The Geosciences Department at Williams College invites applications for a
full-time (40 hours with flexible scheduling) year-round Technical
Assistant to support the educational and research activities of the
department’s faculty and students. Primary responsibilities include
equipment maintenance, training students on analytical and field equipment,
organizing logistics for local and extended field trips, driving field trip
vans when needed, and curating samples and displays within the department.

Qualified candidates should have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in
geosciences or a related field. Excellent organizational, communication and
interpersonal skills are essential. Candidates should be able to work
independently, multi-task effectively, and meet deadlines. Geosciences
faculty and students work with a wide range of field and laboratory
equipment including GPS and geographic information systems; rock, sediment
and soil sample preparation for chemical and paleontological analysis;
thin-section preparation, petrographic microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and
scanning-electron microscopy. The successful candidate will learn how to
use and maintain these instruments, and will also work with and train
students.
