The Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research <http://www.oeschger.unibe.ch/>, University of Bern, Switzerland, opens a postdoctoral position in

Regional Climate Modeling and Statistical-Dynamical Downscaling (80 – 100%, 2 years, renewable to max. 4 years)

We invite applications from enthusiastic highly motivated young researchers with a demonstrated strong background in regional climate modeling and/or statistical-dynamical downscaling. The successful candidate will be hosted at the Climate Modeling Group in Climate- and Environmental Physics. He/she will closely collaborate with other research teams of the Oeschger Centre working in Climate Risk Analysis (wind, precipitation), Climate Impacts and Extreme Events in complex topography (Central Europe, Switzerland, Alps). He/she will design, perform, test and analyze RCM (WRF) model simulations to investigate atmospheric processes at high spatial resolution and provide data sets for impact modeling studies.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, physics or environmental sciences, has demonstrated experience in Regional Climate Modeling (ideally WRF). A background in atmospheric dynamics and statistics is an advantage. Experience with large data sets and computer skills (FORTRAN, MATLAB, R/S-Plus, NCL, and shell-programming on Unix or Linux platforms) is required. Very good English language skills (and basic German), a competitive publications record and strong interpersonal skills are further assets. The candidate will have the possibility to co-supervise MSc and PhD students. Applications from female candidates are encouraged.
