Advertisement No. P 584/13

Candidates with excellent academic and scientific qualifications are
invited to apply for the vacant professorship in Inverse Modelling of
the Earth System. This professorship is part of the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) supported Cluster of Excellence “The
Ocean in the Earth System”, and located at the Institute of
Environmental Physics (IUP) in the faculty of Physics and Electrical
Engineering and the Center for Marine Environmental Sciences (MARUM)
of the University of Bremen. The holder of this post will actively
bridge and facilitate the scientific and academic evolution of IUP and
MARUM.

The research focus of this post is planned to address the interactions
between the earth’s surface (ocean, land and cryosphere) and
atmosphere: satellite data supported inverse modelling of surface
fluxes being one potential focus. Candidates will most likely have
research backgrounds in the following fields: environmental physics,
physical climatology, atmospheric physics and physical oceanography.

The holder of the professorship is encouraged to continue her or his
education in didactics, appropriate for university teaching, and is
required to be able to teach in German or English. The teaching
responsibilities for this professorship address basic courses in
environmental and theoretical physics for the B.Sc. and more advanced
MSc courses in the field of environmental physics.

The required academic qualifications are a university degree in
physical sciences, an outstanding doctorate in a relevant field, the
necessary pedagogical aptitude, and an international scientific
standing.

The University of Bremen aims to raise its share of female scientists
and welcomes explicitly applications from qualified women. The
University of Bremen supports scientists through family friendly
different measures.

Applications from handicapped candidates, with similar qualification,
will be given preference.

Applications from scientists having an immigrant background are
explicitly welcome.

Applications in English including a curriculum vitae, educational
certificates and research and teaching concepts are required to be
sent by 23.04.2013 with reference number P 584/13 in electronic form
(in one single pdf file) to the following address:
