The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Science seeks an in=
novative soil scientist=20
to conduct research, to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and to =
provide outreach in=20
forest, rangeland and ecosystem soil sciences. Position is 9-month tenure=
 track position at the=20
Assistant Professor level.

The successful applicant for the Soil Scientist position is expected to:=20=

=95=09establish a nationally-recognized, competitive research program, pr=
eferably with=20
interdisciplinary, interdepartmental collaboration,
=95=09publish in peer-reviewed journals,=20
=95=09obtain extramural grant support,=20
=95=09teach undergraduate and graduate courses in soil sciences that are =
required for the College of=20
Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources (CABNR) academic program=
s,
=95=09teach additional courses within area of specialization,
=95=09advise undergraduate and graduate students in the Department and in=
 appropriate=20
interdisciplinary graduate programs, and=20
=95=09provide outreach service and leadership to academic, State, profess=
ional, and public=20
stakeholders.=20

Candidates should articulate the following qualifications:
=95=09An interest in collaborating broadly across disciplines and Univers=
ity academic units to=20
explore questions relating to: climate change or other global change proc=
esses; interactions=20
among soil, plants, animals, or water; movement of water, nutrients, and =
contaminants in the=20
vadose zone; altered fire regimes; plant invasion; or restoration of dist=
urbed ecosystems.
=95=09Ability to establish a strong field-based research program with com=
plementary analytical=20
skills.
=95=09Experience in research and teaching programs that are focused on be=
low-ground physical or=20
biological processes and that contribute towards our understanding of eco=
system structure,=20
function, or soil morphology and genesis in forests, rangelands, other wi=
ld lands, or agronomic=20
systems.=20

In addition to the qualifications above, the Soil Scientist must have a P=
h.D. with specialization in=20
soil science, plant-soil-water interaction, soil biogeochemistry, nutrien=
t cycling or modeling, or=20
closely-related fields.
