IN CONOCOPHILLIPS SCHOOL OF GEOLOGY AND GEOPHYSICS
MEWBOURNE COLLEGE OF EARTH & ENERGY
THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA

The University of Oklahoma invites applications for a teaching intensive Assistant Professor of Practice. This is a non-tenure track ranked renewable term position. We search for a dynamic candidate who will teach field courses as well as introductory level courses.  The candidate will be expected to teach and eventually become director of our Bartell Field Camp (opened in 2011) outside of Canon City, Colorado.

We seek enthusiastic applicants who have experience with innovative undergraduate learning and teaching methods. The candidate will be expected to teach Physical Geology for Science and Engineering Majors, Introductory Field Methods (our capstone Field Geology course), and other courses of interest to the candidate. Salary, benefits, and start-up funds will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

The ConocoPhillips School of Geology and Geophysics has a large, vibrant faculty with a broad range of research activities and strong ties to the petroleum industry. Field experiences are integral and essential elements in our undergraduate and graduate programs. The student body includes about 160 undergraduates and 110 MS and PhD students. The Bartell Field Camp is located on the northeastern edge of the Wet Mountains and the area is an ideal geological field laboratory.  We teach two courses at the camp: our six week geology capstone and a three week geophysics capstone. Details and pictures of the camp can be found at

Review of applications will begin January 1, 2014, and on-campus interviews will start spring of 2014. The search will continue until the position is filled.  The anticipated starting date is August 16, 2014.  ABD applicants will be considered but a completed Ph.D. is required at the time of employment.
