Northeastern Illinois University invites applications for a full-time,
tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the Department of
Earth Science. Appointment begins August 2014. We seek a new faculty
member with strengths in fieldwork with expertise in structural geology or
geotectonics to provide students with important and necessary training in
this area, and to complement and enhance the department’s focus on
environmental geosciences. The successful candidate will be responsible
for revision and implementation of our field geology course to encompass
our focus on environmental geology, while also providing a strong
foundation in the basics of field geology. Broadly trained structural

especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a solid
background in geology and will teach courses in support of the department’s
degree requirements, as well as courses for the general education program
and First-Year Experience program, as appropriate. The department
encourages the use of innovative and effective pedagogies, and candidates
must have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching in classroom,
laboratory, and field settings. The new faculty member will be expected to
participate in student advisement, curriculum development, and service at
the department, college, and university level. The new faculty member also
will be expected to develop a research program that will actively engage
undergraduate students. A Ph.D. in geology or related field at the time of
appointment is required; post-doctoral research or related work experience
is desirable.
