hello all,

if you tried to run the manhattan version of DART on the new
NCAR machine 'cheyenne', you should know that from march 21st
until yesterday, april 10th, one of the features of MPI that DART
requires was disabled on cheyenne. the system folks were trying
to debug an unrelated issue and SGI suggested they disable the
'XPMEM' feature of their MPT (mpi) library. this didn't fix the
original system problem and it broke DART.

the symptom was that DART crashed with a fatal error. the message
complained about an invalid window id at the time we computed the
forward operators. this XPMEM setting has been re-enabled as of
yesterday and DART is again running successfully on cheyenne.

thanks,
