hello munawar,

we're glad to hear of your interest in the TIE-GCM model
and DART. because of the size of the data in a model like
tie-gcm and other large geophysical models, the dart code
is written in fortran both for execution speed and so it can
use MPI to run in parallel on clusters and supercomputers.

at this time there is not a version in matlab. the core assimilation
algorithms can easily be written in matlab, but there are
lots of other facilities in dart that are needed when using a
real geophysical model (like localization, inflation, sampling
error correction, etc) that are most efficient in a compiled language.

there are free fortran compilers for linux systems in the
gnu compiler packages. would that be an option for you?

if you want to discuss this more, please reply to the
'dart at ucar.edu' email address and your note will go
to the dart development group. the 'dart-dev' mailing list
is usually used for announcing new updates to the code
repository and your notes there may not be seen as quickly.

thanks, and welcome!
nancy
