to assess the sentiments of the community about helping to defray the
additional dependent care costs for those most in need. 41 CEDAR members (approximately 12% of CEDAR
workshop participants) responded to this survey (typical of general experience
in survey response). The vast majority
of the survey respondents were in favor of providing dependent care support at
the CEDAR workshop. Many of the comments
were indicative of a view that CEDAR should follow AGU and GEM in providing dependent
care support.</p>

issue at its Fall meeting in 2019. GEM
provided several dependent care grants at its last meeting by funding the grants

child care, but provides only limited student funding (and then mostly via
appeal to the AGU community for donations).
Recognizing that CEDAR meeting registration fee have been on the rise,
the CSSC decided to first gauge the broader CEDAR community support by
appealing for donations during the registration cycle rather than adding to
regular participant registration fees. CEDAR
plans to offer dependent care grants for the 2020 workshop described here (<a href="https://cedarweb.vsp.ucar.edu/wiki/index.php/Workshop:DependentCareGrants" style="color:blue">https://cedarweb.vsp.ucar.edu/wiki/index.php/Workshop:DependentCareGrants</a>). The topic will be revisited at the fall CSSC
meeting to discuss the funding model via donations.</p>
