The assistantship is part of a project investigating dynamics and coupling of the Arctic atmosphere and geospace that employs resonance and Rayleigh lidars. These lidars are operated as part of a suite of lidar, radar and imaging instruments by a team of researchers conducting meteorological and space weather studies at the Geophysical Institute and Poker Flat Research Range (PFRR). Rocket-borne investigations are also conducted at PFRR in coordination with the ground-based instrumentation. The successful applicant will work with a new sodium resonance wind-temperature lidar system that is operating at PFRR and have the opportunity to further improve the lidar system as well as the scientific analysis and interpretation of the lidar measurements.

For more information please contact Prof. Richard Collins (rlcollins@alaska.edu; Web: https://collinslab.community.uaf.edu/).

---------------------

Richard Collins
Professor and Chief Scientist Poker Flat Research Range

Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Institute
University of Alaska Fairbanks
2156 Koyukuk Drive
Fairbanks, AK 99775-7320

Phone: (907) 474-7607
Fax: (907) 474-7290
Dept: (907) 474-7368

Lidar Research: https://collinslab.community.uaf.edu/
Atmospheric Sciences: http://ffden-2.phys.uaf.edu/atm
Geophysical Institute: http://www.gi.alaska.edu/research/atmo
Poker Flat Research Range: http://www.pfrr.alaska.edu/
