System Science (CPAESS TM ) is seeking to fill a Visiting Scientist position at
the NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in Princeton, New Jersey.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>This is an initial
two-year position with possibility of a one-year extension.<span> </span>Initial consideration will be given to applications
received prior to 17 November 2017.<span>

be provided.<span></span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>What You Will Do<span></span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">This position(s) will focus on the continued development of
the GFDL AM4 and fvGFS models at convection-resolving (< 4km) scales for
nowcast to S2S scales and beyond. The qualified candidate(s) will have a strong
background in the simulation of mesoscale and convective-scale features:
examples include but are not limited to tropical convection, tropical cyclones,
severe local storms, orographic and coastal phenomena, boundary-layer motions,
or intense rain, wind, ice, or snow events. The qualified candidate(s) should
have substantial experience configuring, running, and evaluating numerical
models (idealized or comprehensive) for simulating these phenomena. <span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">The responsibilities of the position
will include supporting the PI's and other group members' efforts to:<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Design model configurations for simulation and prediction on
convection-resolving scales, including of the FV3 dynamical core and the GFS
and AM4 physics suites.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Prepare weather and climate simulations. <span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Analyze model output and compare to observations, including
the development of diagnostics for prediction and verification with standard
datasets and new observational products.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Document and present changes to the model and model results.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Design of graphical presentation of results, including
figures for our real-time prediction website.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:4.5pt"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:4.5pt"><b><span> </span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>What You Need<span></span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">A PhD in Atmospheric Sciences or related field is desirable
but not required. <span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>Problem Solving<span></span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Independent decision making is required.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Applies in-depth knowledge of program area to devise
creative solutions to problems. Erroneous decisions or recommendation would
normally result in serious delays to assigned projects or failure to achieve
goals critical to major organizational objectives. This could seriously affect
