Goerg was a pioneer in the study of Noctilucent Clouds, dating from his landmark papers and dissertation in the 60s, with continuing accomplishments through recent days. Georg was a careful researcher with high standards whose work has long been held in high regard. He taught, influenced, and inspired many of the best researchers in our field today.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>We progress in science at times as individuals or in small groups, but most importantly together as a larger community. There is no question that we collectively build on the work of those who have gone before us. Georg’s contributions almost certainly influenced most of us in some way. We on the AIM team would like to acknowledge the role that Georg played in our field and in the science that led to the AIM mission. In addition to his many contributions to NLC science, his work played a very direct role in the development of the CIPS instrument. Throughout history on the occasion of celebrating great progress, the recipients of awards and leaders of organizations have often referred to the <span style='color:black'>aphorism “<em>A dwarf sees farther when he has the giant’s shoulders to mount on</em>.”</span><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'> </span><span style='color:black'>This surely applies to our friend and colleague Georg.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal>We are so fortunate to be able work in a very cooperative and supportive community with regular meetings that are productive, inspiring, and fun. Georg’s presence in those meetings has always been strong. There is no doubt that the spirit of those meetings will continue. But there is also no doubt that it will be different without Georg.
