Accurate assessment of the enhanced cooling in the middle atmosphere provides us with an early warning system for global warming at the surface. The higher sensitivity of various non-localized feedback processes to climate change in the middle atmosphere places high demands on measurement, modeling, and assessment analysis of climate forcings and feedbacks. This session addresses recent advancements in global data analysis and the development of new diagnostic tools used to evaluate and model the feedback responses to natural and anthropogenic climate forcings from above and below, including greenhouse gases, aerosols, solar variability, and volcanic activity. We invite contributions presenting new data and methodological innovations for climate feedback diagnosis as well as model studies that highlight changes in the middle atmosphere or their coupling with the surface and lower atmosphere climate.

Primary Section/Focus Group: SPA-Aeronomy

Co-Sponsor(s): A - Atmospheric Sciences; GC - Global Environmental Change

Convener: Xun Zhu

Co-conveners: William Swartz, Ming Cai, Jae Lee

++++++++++++++++++++++++
