<br>Positions for post-doctoral and/or senior researchers are available at the<br>University of Oulu, Finland, within the Centre of Excellence in “Research<br>on Solar Long-term Variability and Effects” (ReSoLVE) of the Academy of<br>
Finland. The first funding period covers the years 2014 – 2016, with a<br>possibility of extension to 2017 – 2019. All positions include a 4-month<br>trial period.<br><br>ReSoLVE studies the long-term (multidecadal to centennial) magnetic<br>
evolution of the Sun, which depicts a dramatic increase in the 20th century<br>and a recent decline, and the related changes in the inner heliosphere and<br>in the near-Earth environment. Specific research topics of ReSoLVE include,<br>
e.g., the changing structure of solar magnetic fields, solar corona, solar<br>wind and the heliospheric magnetic field, and the effect of this change at<br>the Earth, causing electromagnetic disturbances, geomagnetic activity and<br>
geomagnetic storms, energizing magnetospheric particles, and affecting the<br>atmosphere.<br><br>We welcome applications from experts in any of these fields, especially in<br>- coronal field and solar wind modelling<br>- modelling of solar (both particle and TSI/SSI) effects in the atmosphere.<br>
Successful candidates are expected to focus on research, but need to devote<br>a fraction of time to supervising PhD/MSc students, lecturing and/or other<br>education. The salary is based on the job demand level 5-7 of the salary<br>
system for teaching and research staff in use in Finnish universities<br>(upper table in <a href="http://www.hallinto.oulu.fi/upj/ypj-palkat20130101.pdf">http://www.hallinto.oulu.fi/upj/ypj-palkat20130101.pdf</a>).<br>Positions are for the first funding period. Extension is possible if ReSoLVE<br>
is continued.<br><br>Oulu, the capital of Northern Finland at the Gulf of Bothnia of the Baltic<br>Sea, is a lively university town with a wealth of cultural activities and<br>happenings. The vibrant atmosphere of challenging front-end research in an<br>
