Arecibo Observatory will conduct a summer student program, funded by the
National Science Foundation’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
Program, at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico during Summer 2014. Areas
of research include radio astronomy, solar system studies and atmospheric
and space sciences. Students interested in electronic instrumentation or
computer science are also encouraged to apply. The assistantships, which
include a stipend, accommodation, and round trip airline tickets, are
conducted during a flexible ten week period beginning in June. Students
will have opportunities to visit many of the beautiful sites of Puerto Rico,
which is a U.S. Commonwealth.

Undergraduates who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and who
will be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program (part or full time)
during Fall 2014 are eligible. Apply online at

The goal of the Lloyd V. Berkner Space Policy Internship is to provide
promising students with the opportunity to work in the area of civil space
research policy in the nation's capital, under the aegis of the National
Research Council’s Space Science Board.  The summer 2014 program is only open
to undergraduates.  The deadline for applications is February 7.  Candidate(s)
selected for will be contacted no later than March 7.  Additional information

The Space Science Institute (SSI), a non-profit, public-benefit 501(c)(3)
corporation, invites inquiries and applications for the position of Executive
Director. Qualified candidates will have a strong reputation within a
scientific field relevant to the institute (e.g., planetary science,
astrophysics, space physics, or Earth science) and will possess excellent
leadership, managerial, interpersonal, and administrative skills.  The
successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and augmenting the
scientific excellence and vitality of the institute, for implementing long-
term strategies and organizational goals, for developing and overseeing
effective management and financial practices, and for cultivating good
relationships with the general public, scientific and educational
professionals, and potential funding agents. The Executive Director will be
expected to maintain his/her own independent research program to help support
a dedicated portion (ideally 25-50%) of time/salary.  Candidates must have a
Ph.D. and approximately ten years of experience in project management.
