Due to possible trouble of network connection, we decided to extend
the deadline of abstract submission and financial support request of
the International CAWSES-II Symposium held in Nagoya, Japan, Nov 18-22, 2013
from June 30 to July 7, 2013.

We also note that the symposium web server will stop from 0800UT
on July 1 til 00:30 on July 2 due to power stop of the STEL, Nagoya Univ.
Please avoid submitting your abstract and financial support request
in this interval.

From Janet Kozyra <jukozyra at umich.edu>.

CAWSES-II included an eScience and Informatics task group with the goal of
promoting
an International Virtual Institute, to advance system-level investigations. Such
pursuits require: researchers committed to the value of pursuing science at the
interface between disciplines, strongly-focused science topics that provide a
common
theme around which disciplines are able to interact, means of educating researchers
about the key scientific issues in other disciplines and the connections between
disciplines, access to scientific publications in other discipline areas, new forms
of scholarly publishing, and the structure needed to bring researchers into contact
with data sets, models, and each other, across disciplines and national boundaries.
This was an ambitious and forward looking agenda.

The session includes contributions that demonstrate the concepts and capabilities
of the virtual institute ranging from data resources via Virtual Observatories to
web-based collaboration environments and report on research activities and outcomes
and discuss successes and intrinsic challenges encountered along the way. It is
envisioned that such contributions will pragmatically inform future international
programs

We are hoping you will submit an abstract to this special session on eScience and
Informatics scheduled for the CAWSES-II workshop in Nagoya, Japan during November
18-22, 2013. The abstract deadline is fast approaching -- July 7!

The purpose of the session to inform future international programs about the
exciting
advances in support of data discovery, access, and analysis that cross discipline
boundaries and nations. Information on lessons learned and new discoveries from
scientists working on the front lines in networked ground-based instruments,
virtual
observatories and value added services for data discovery, access and analysis
are a
primary information source for leveraging their promise for attacking science
frontiers
- especially through international collaborations.

A description of the session is given above. Please join us in Nagoya to
discuss the
future of eScience and Informatics in accelerating efforts to address some of
the most
pressing scientific challenges in the Sun-Earth system, space weather, and
connections
to climate variability.

Best Regards,

Janet Kozyra <jukozyra at umich.edu>

(3) ESA Postdoctoral Fellowships in Space Science due 1 October.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Guido De Marchi (fellowship at rssd.esa.int).

The European Space Agency awards several postdoctoral fellowships each
year. The aim of these fellowships is to provide young scientists, holding
a PhD or the equivalent degree, with the means of performing space science
research in fields related to the ESA Science and Robotic Exploration
Programmes. Areas of research include planetary science, astronomy and
astrophysics, solar and solar-terrestrial science, plasma physics and
fundamental physics. The fellowships have a duration of two years and are
tenable at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in
Noordwijk, Netherlands, or at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC)
in Villafranca del Castillo, near Madrid, Spain.

Applications are now solicited for fellowships in space science to begin
in the fall of 2014. Preference will be given to applications submitted by
candidates within five years of receiving their PhD. Candidates not
holding a PhD yet are encouraged to apply, but they must provide evidence
of receiving their degree before starting the fellowship.

ESA fellows are enrolled in ESA's Social Security Scheme, which covers
medical expenses, invalidity and death benefits. A monthly deduction
covers these short-term and long-term risks.

The deadline for applications is 1 October 2013.

More information on the ESA Research Fellowship programme in Space
Science, on the conditions and eligibility, as well as the application
form can be found on the world-wide web at this address:
http://www.rssd.esa.int/fellowship

Questions on the scientific aspects of the ESA Fellowship in Space Science
not answered in the above pages can be sent by e-mail to the fellowship
coordinator, Dr. Guido De Marchi, at the address fellowship at rssd.esa.int
