First Announcement:

The next C/NOFS Science Workshop will be held for 2½ days on 12-14 March 2013 in 
Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The objective of this meeting is to address questions 
related to the dynamics of the equatorial ionosphere, how it is driven from 
above by the solar wind and from below by the troposphere and mesosphere, how it 
varies as a function of altitude, latitude, longitude and solar activity. 
Results from the Communication/Navigation Outage Forecasting System (C/NOFS) 
satellite, as well as other ground and space instruments, will be presented. 
Meeting discussions will also relate to science questions that can specifically 
be addressed with C/NOFS during solar maximum and close to the time of reentry 
when its orbit circularizes, as well as with future programs, including the 
Space Situational Awareness Environmental Monitoring (SSAEM) mission planned for 
2015 on COSMIC 2 and upcoming CubeSat flights.

The scientific sessions will bring together the C/NOFS PIs and Guest 
Investigators, theoreticians, data analysts, and equatorial ionospheric 
physicists in a workshop setting that includes both invited and contributed 
talks, posters, and panel discussions.

We welcome abstracts on all equatorial ionospheric topics, including:

*	Solar wind and storm-time effects, penetration E-fields, disturbance dynamo
*	Plasma irregularity formation, evolution, and decay
*	Scintillation effects
*	Neutral atmosphere, waves, tides, stratospheric warmings and their influence 
on the equatorial ionosphere
*	Models and simulation
*	Future space environment missions related to equatorial irregularities and 
electron density
*	Space weather applications: forecast, specification, and validation

As part of a university-wide multi-disciplinary faculty hiring initiative in
the area of "big data," the Physics Department of New Jersey Institute of
Technology (NJIT) is searching for a tenure-track assistant professor who
will play a leading role in research that involves analysis, data mining, and
data visualization of multi-terabyte data sets in the physical sciences.
Potential candidates should have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, must
demonstrate a strong track record in one of the key research areas in the
department, and must also be an expert in the development of innovative
computational methods in handling large experimental and/or modeling data
sets. Currently, the physics department has 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty
members with research focusing on Biophysics, Materials Science, Optics and
Solar/Terrestrial Astrophysics.  The potential candidate must also be able to
effectively teach physics at the undergraduate and graduate level.   The

Assistant Research Scientist (level to be determined by experience)

Assistant Research Physicist:  The Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL), at the
University of California, Berkeley, CA seeks a scientist to perform research
in upper atmospheric or ionospheric physics with emphasis towards modeling of
the interaction of atmospheric waves with these regions.  The successful
candidate will be expected to conduct original research by running numerical
models that are used in the community and comparing these to analyzed data.
The candidate is also expected to play an active role in pursuing future
research grants and awards along with other members of the Atmospheric
Emissions group.  Duties may also involve sharing routine flight instrument
maintenance tasks with other members of the group.  And depending on his or
her interests, the candidate may also work with data from the Constellation
Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate (COSMIC) satellites.

Applicants must have a PhD in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field,
and at least two years of post-graduate experience including extensive
experience in numerical modeling.  Familiarity with the FORTRAN and parallel
computing is preferred.  The initial appointment will be for two years, with
a possibility of renewal.  The anticipated start date is January 1, 2013.
