(1) 26 June - 01 July 2011, Santa Fe, NM CEDAR-GEM registrations for students
and poster abstracts are due Friday 13 May.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Barbara Emery (emery at ucar.edu).

Student registrations for the joint GEM-CEDAR Workshop to be held from
Sunday June 26 through Friday July 2 in Santa Fe, NM are due on Friday
13 May. Student registration fees are $100, but a late fee of $75 will
be imposed starting Monday 16 May. CEDAR students should register at

http://cedarweb.hao.ucar.edu/wiki/index.php/2011_Workshop:Main
(or http://cedarweb.hao.ucar.edu/wiki/index.php/2011_Workshop:Register)

while GEM students should register at http://www.cpe.vt.edu/gem/.

The late fee for non-students will take effect on Monday 6 June, but
non-students who get the same funding as students should register by
13 May. (Please do not register at both sites!)

Sunday 26 June is the student workshop day, which this year is only open
to student attendees. The Workshop ends around noon on Friday July 2 for
CEDAR and ~130 Friday July 2 for GEM. Students (or their institutions)
should make their plane reservations by Friday 3 June. Most students
should be able to return Friday 1 July, but can elect to stay until
Saturday 2 July. All students need to mark on their registration form
if they plan to use the student housing, which are double and triple
rooms in the three hotels (La Fonda, Hilton, and Eldorado). Please
revise your lodging dates to correspond to your flight dates.

Colorado students should be aware that the air fare from Denver to
Albuquerque by Frontier Airlines is ~$220 this year at this time.
Colorado students should think about flying instead of driving or
taking the bus. Indeed, we will NOT have a CEDAR bus coming from
Colorado this year because of the cheap air fares.

Poster abstracts submitted through the CEDAR registration site and at
the GEM poster subscription site (title only) are also due on Friday 13 May.
Posters are all 4ft by 4ft (1.2m by 1.2m) so there are 2 posters side-by-side
on each poster board, with 2 other posters on the back side. Poster
sessions are from 4-7PM with light snacks on Tuesday and Wednesday
June 28-29. CEDAR students are encouraged to enter the annual CEDAR
student poster competition.

The 2011 URSI/COSPAR International Reference Ionosphere (IRI)

Magnetic Observatory (HMO). The special emphasis of this workshop will be on
improving IRI over the African Region, however, all contributions related to
shortcomings and improvements of the IRI model as well as applications of the
IRI are welcome. Presentations are also encouraged that introduce new data
sources and measurement techniques that could benefit the IRI effort. This
workshop will also provide an opportunity to continue discussions related to a
real-time IRI model. Selected papers from this workshop will be published in
Advances in Space Research. The official IRI 2011 website can be found at
http://iri2011.hmo.ac.za and enquiries can be sent to iri2011 at hmo.ac.za

From: Dieter Bilitza (dbilitza at gmu.edu).

Papers are invited for a special topical issue of Advances in Space Research
(ASR) entitled "Representation of the Auroral and Polar Ionosphere in the
International Reference Ionosphere (IRI)". This special issue is open to all
scientists who may have an appropriate scientific paper related to the
representation of the high latitude ionosphere in the International Reference
Ionosphere (IRI). The core issue will be based on papers presented during the
38th COSPAR Scientific Assembly in Bremen, Germany, however, all contributions
related to the improvements of the IRI models as well as its applications are
welcome. Papers are submitted electronically at http://ees.elsevier.com/asr.
