From Jorge L. Chau (Chair) (jorge.chau at jro.igp.gob.pe).

The International Organizing Committee (IOC) is pleased to make the 2nd
announcement regarding the 13th International Symposium on Equatorial Aeronomy,
to be held in Paracas, Peru March 12-16, 2012. At this time, we invite all
colleagues who are interested in attending ISEA 13 to submit abstracts for oral
and poster presentations of their work. The ISEA 13 home page
(http://jro.igp.gob.pe/isea13) has instructions on how to submit an abstract.
The web site also contains information on registration, hotel reservation,
financial assistance and travel.

DEADLINES:

*Abstract submission: November 30, 2011
*Financial assistance: December 15, 2011
*Hotel reservations in Paracas (special ISEA 13 price): January 12, 2012
*Early registration ($450): January 12, 2012
*Airline information (for arranging group transportation to Paracas): February
20, 2012
*Tourism activities: It will depend on the activity, please contact Condor
Travel (details in the webpage).

MEETING INFORMATION:

ISEA is held approximately every three to four years and is a major event in the
field of Aeronomy. It serves as a forum for scientists to report and discuss
recent research results and progress relating to the physics of the mesosphere,
thermosphere and ionosphere at equatorial, low- and mid-latitudes.

The ISEA 13 program includes 8 scientific sessions with oral and poster
portions, distributed over four and a half conference days. In addition, after
the last day of ISEA, i.e., on Saturday March 17 2012, there will be a full-day
optional visit to the Jicamarca Radio Observatory to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Paracas is ~270 km south of Lima and can only be reached by car. The LOC will
arrange transportation from Lima to Paracas (and back) on predefined times and
locations (e.g., airport or hotels in Miraflores). Participants should plan to
get to the Jorge Chavez International Airport (code LIM). Instructions on these
arrangements as well as other ways of reaching Paracas are provided in the
ISEA13 webpage.

The ISEA13 scientific sessions are:

*S1: Irregularity Physics
*S2: E and F region coupling (low and mid latitude coupling)
*S3: Wave propagation between low/middle atmosphere and ionosphere
*S4: Plasma neutral coupling
*S5: Low and mid latitude Aeronomy and Electrodynamics
*S6: Ionospheric storms and Space weather effects at low and mid latitudes
*S7: New techniques, experiments, campaigns, and results
*S8: Future trends and challenges

Specific details of the sessions, including conveners, description, and a list
of confirmed invited speakers are indicated at the website.

We expect around 150 participants at ISEA 13. Plans are being discussed to have
a student paper competition. If you plan to attend the meeting, please bookmark
the ISEA 13 page http://jro.igp.gob.pe/isea13 and take action now.

Best regards and thanks for your attention,

From: Nicole Scholle <nscholle at gi.alaska.edu> where more information is
available from Mark Conde.(Mark.Conde at gi.alaska.edu).

The Geophysical Institute and the Physics Department of the University of Alaska
Fairbanks invite applications to fill a joint tenure-track position in physics
and space physics. The successful applicant will join the Geophysical Institute
as part of the Space Physics and Aeronomy Group, and will become a faculty
member in the Physics Department of the College of Natural Science and
Mathematics. Duties will include conducting research in aeronomy or space
physics, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in physics, and supporting
the University’s wider mission through service. The position is targeted at the
assistant professor level, although appointment at a higher rank may be
considered for suitably qualified candidates. Current research activities of the
Space Physics and Aeronomy Group include optical and radar observations of the
neutral atmosphere, ionosphere, and aurora; space plasma simulations;
ionospheric modeling; rocket experiments; and analysis of ground and space based
observational data sets. Applications are invited from researchers working on
topics relevant to these areas, with ground-based optical and radar aeronomy
being of particular interest for this position. The successful applicant will be
committed to pursuing external funding to continue his or her research programs
at the University of Alaska. Existing facilities available for research use
include Poker Flat Research Range, the NSF's Poker Flat Incoherent Scatter Radar
(PFISR), rocket launch facilities, the Davis Science Center, and a lidar
observatory. The Geophysical Institute has an instrumentation laboratory, a
machine shop, and an electronic shop. In addition, UAF is the home of the Arctic
Region Supercomputing Center, which can provide resources for large-scale
computing needs. Opportunities exist for collaboration with other groups within
the Geophysical Institute, such as Atmospheric Sciences, as well as other units
from the wider University, notably the School of Engineering.

This position will be open until filled. Review of applications will begin
December 19, 2011. A complete job description and application instructions can
be found at the following web page: http://www.uakjobs.com under posting
#0062559. For further information on the position please contact the search
committee chair Dr Mark Conde.(Mark.Conde at gi.alaska.edu). Questions about the
application process may be addressed to Donna Laiti, HR Consultant, Geophysical
Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks, P.O. Box 757320, Fairbanks, AK
99775-7320, (907) 474-7791 or e-mail: dglaiti at alaska.edu.
