2010 is the 25th anniversary of the annual summer CEDAR Workshops so
it is fitting to meet in Boulder, Colorado, where we first started.
To celebrate, we will sell long- and short-sleeved T-shirts and polo
shirts in both black and white with our 25th anniversary logo shown at

T-shirts. This logo also appears on our [http://www.fin.ucar.edu/UCARVSP/CEDAR/
registration page].

We will order 100 shirts, but most of the shirts available to buy at
the meeting will be black or white short-sleeved T-shirts in mostly
Large sizes, with possibly a few polos. All other kinds and sizes of
shirts should be ordered before 21 May and then picked up at the meeting
or later. You do not have to go to the meeting to order a shirt. The order
goes in on 21 May, so order exactly what you want before this from
the list below.

25th Anniversary CEDAR Shirts in sizes small to X-large (2X-large
and 3x-large are $3 extra for short-sleeved T-shirts and $5 extra
for polo shirts or long sleeves) where T-shirts have logos on the
front 'pocket area' and the back, while polos only have logos on the front
pocket:
# $8.50 white short-sleeved T-shirt (also available at the meeting in large)

$5 extra for 2X or 3X in the polos and any long-sleeved shirts.

Please make checks out to Barbara Emery and send to Barbara Emery, HAO/NCAR,
3080 Center Green, boulder, CO 80301.
We can only accept cash or checks for the shirts, and payment before the
meeting would be greatly appreciated.
Please email Kendra Greb [mailto:kgreb at ucar.edu Kendra Greb] clear directions of
what shirt(s) you want in what sizes. The shirts can be picked
up at the 2010 Workshop or mailed to you after the workshop.

(2) CEDAR Poster Abstracts, Dorm Lodging, and Student and CEDAR Post Doc
Registrations due this Friday May 14 - $75 late fee imposed Monday May 17.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Barbara Emery (emery at ucar.edu).

Late fees of $75 are imposed for students and CEDAR Post-docs on Monday
May 17, where registration is nominally due this Friday May 14. The reason
for this is the student housing at the dorm must be ordered by May 14.
This year, all dormitory rooms are doubles. Non-students can register
for the dorms ($42 per person per night, or $84/room per night),
and will owe NCAR $42 per night to be paid at the registration table.
Non-student registration late fees of $75 are imposed on Tuesday June 1
where registration is due Friday May 28.

However, anyone who wants to present a poster at the workshop, must register
by this Friday because the abstracts are due Friday 14 May (with a grace period of
the weekend). Abstracts can only be submitted with a current registration
form either during the registration process or afterwards. Please register
promptly.

(6) Post-Doc in Middle Atmosphere Dynamics at University of Bath, UK,
due date 18 May.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Nicholas Mitchell (N.J.Mitchell at bath.ac.uk).

POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE in
Dynamics of the Middle Atmosphere

Centre for Space Atmospheric and Oceanic Science
Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering
The University of Bath, UK

Salary: UK pounds 29,853 - 35,646 (~US$ 44,00-53,000)

Fixed-term 3-year appointment, available immediately

Closing date: May 18, 2010

Applications are invited for a research associate to work in the Centre
for
Space, Atmospheric and Oceanic Science at the University of Bath as part
of a
NERC-funded project supervised by Prof Nicholas Mitchell of Bath and Dr
Robert Hibbins of The British Antarctic Survey. The post is available
immediately.

The project will study the dynamics of the stratosphere and mesosphere
using
data from ground-based radars at polar, middle and equatorial latitudes
and
from satellites (particularly NASA's Aura). The scientific studies
will
focus on: i) the role of the mountains of the Southern Andes and
Antarctic
Peninsula as generators of gravity waves that reach the stratosphere and
mesosphere, ii) the effect of the stratospheric polar vortex in exciting
and
filtering the field of gravity waves ascending to the mesosphere, iii)
gravity-wave/tidal coupling and iv) the role of the quasi-biennial
oscillation in controlling the inter-hemispheric propagation of
planetary
waves.

The work of the Centre is strongly international and the research
associate
will be expected to take part in international collaborations and to
present
their work at international meetings.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in physics, meteorology,
mathematics or engineering and good data-analysis skills. Experience of
atmospheric physics would be an advantage. The University of Bath
regularly
features in lists of the top UK universities. The university is located
about 2 km from the centre of the historic city of Bath. The Centre for
Space, Atmospheric and Oceanic Science consists of 11 academic staff and
31
researchers and postgraduate students
(http://www.bath.ac.uk/elec-eng/research/csaos/).

further the understanding of both plasma physical processes and their
applications for the benefit of society. The award is open to scientists
who received their Ph.D. degree after June 1, 2003 and currently live and
work in developing nations. Consideration is to be given to candidates who
have overcome obstacles in attaining their research objectives.

The Space Physics and Aeronomy Section will invite the recipient to present
a paper at AGU’s Fall Meeting in San Francisco, California. Travel funds and
living expenses will be provided to attend the meeting, where the recipient

to AGU. The award will be presented at the SPA dinner, for which the awardee
will receive a complimentary ticket. The awardee will also be announced in /Eos/.

Nominations should be prepared by an AGU member or other geoscientist who is
knowledgeable of the candidate’s qualifications and include the following
information:

• nominator’s name and title, address and contact numbers;
