Please consider submitting an abstract for the 2010 Fall AGU meeting, in
Session SA11: Heliosphere-Atmosphere Coupling and Climate. A description
of the session is given below. Invited authors include Lesley Gray,
Janet Kozyra, David Siskind, and Anne Smith. This promises to be an
exciting session of broad, interdisciplinary interest, and we hope that
you will be able to attend.

The meeting will be held in San Francisco, California, USA, from 13-17
December 2010 (see http://www.agu.org/meetings/fm10/). Abstracts are due
by Thursday, 2 September, 23:59 EDT.

Session SA11: Heliosphere-Atmosphere Coupling and Climate
Session Description:
In recent decades increased attention has been placed on the influence
of energetic particle and solar forcing on atmospheric coupling.
Nevertheless, a solid mechanistic understanding of the pathways by which
this forcing affects climate from the thermosphere to the surface is
elusive. Likewise, the influence of tropospheric change on the upper
atmosphere response to heliophysical variability is highly uncertain.
This session invites presentations on the Earth’s atmospheric response
to geomagnetic and solar forcing, including observational and modeling
studies of both chemical and dynamical effects. Emphasis is on the
processes by which heliophysical forcing is communicated throughout
different atmospheric regions, and potential climate feedbacks.

GC29: Solar Spectral Irradiance and Long-Term Solar Variability: Observations 
and Implications

Description:
Observations of the spectrally resolved solar irradiance (SSI) now extend over 
epochs that are long enough to identify the amplitude and phase of solar 
variability as a function of wavelength. This variability impacts the entire 
atmosphere, ozone and climate system. Long-term data records are often 
composites from several instruments or proxies. The methods of combining records 
and their uncertainties must be well understood to make valid comparisons on 
solar cycle timescales. We solicit papers on the measurement of SSI, the methods 
of producing composite time series, and the implications and impacts that SSI 
variations have on the atmosphere, climate, and near space environment.

We encourage all members of the CEDAR community to contribute to this session on 
the atmospheric response to solar spectral irradiance changes.  If you have any 
questions, don't hesitate to contact any of the conveners listed below.

IES2011 - A triennial symposium inaugurated in 1975 -

Dear IES Friends and Colleagues:

IES2011 is scheduled for May 17-19, 2011 in Alexandria, Virginia, an historic 
town near Washington DC. Ionospheric Effects Symposia have been held in 
Alexandria since 1975, and IES2011 is the thirteenth in the series. Please visit 
the symposium web site for details (http://www.ies2011.com).  IES2011 offers an 
opportunity for scientists, engineers, and program managers to review current 
activities and solutions to system impacts of ionospheric phenomena and space 
weather events. Current sponsors include the Office of Naval Research and URSI.

The International Symposium on Equatorial Aeronomy (ISEA) is an event organized 
approximately every three to four years and is a major event in the field of 
upper atmospheric and ionospheric science.  ISEA brings together around 150 
scientists from all over the world who are interested in studying the low 
latitude atmosphere and ionosphere and the coupling with other latitudinal and 
altitudinal regions.

The 13th International Symposium on Equatorial Aeronomy will be held from March 
12-17, 2012 at the La Hacienda Bahia Paracas Hotel 
(http://www.hoteleslahacienda.com/esp/paracas/index_paracas.html), in 
Paracas-Peru.  Preliminary information about ISEA 13 can be found at 
http://jro.igp.gob.pe/isea13

In addition to marking 50 years since the first ISEA held in Huaychulo, Peru in 
1962, ISEA 13 will also celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Jicamarca Radio 
Observatory (http://jro.igp.gob.pe/50years - web site under construction).  The 
central day for Jicamarca's 50th Anniversary celebration will be immediately 
after ISEA 13 on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Jicamarca Radio Observatory.
