Dear All,

Please note that the abstract deadline for the 2010 Fall AGU is September 2, 2010. To continue the momentum and excitement of the Science that is coming out from the recently deployed instruments and from the flyby LEO satellite data over Africa, we encourage you to send an abstract to Special Session SA08. Detail description of the special session is shown below.

SA08 --Unique Equatorial Ionospheric Electrodynamics in the African Sector

Satellite observations show unique equatorial ionospheric structures in the African sector, such as enhanced generation of F-region plasma irregularities and scintillations. For many years, these have not been confirmed or studied in detail by observations from the ground due to lack of ground-based instrumentation in the region. During the past few years, through the UN sponsored International Heliophysical Year (IHY) program, a significant number of instruments have been deployed and simultaneous observations (from the ground and space) became possible. This session attempts to understand the sequence of cause and effect relationships by including data analysis and theory/modeling papers that address all aspects of the unique ionospheric electrodynamics in the African sector. While emphasizing recent progress and outstanding issues in the dynamics of the equatorial electrodynamics in the African sector, we welcome any papers that shed light on relevant physical processes and comparisons with other longitudinal sectors. Both modeling and observational results are welcome.

If you have any questions, please contact the Co-conveners: Keith Groves, Trevor Garner, and Endawoke Yizengaw.
